RIC Sets All-Time April Passenger Mark

May 18, 2015

Richmond, VA (May 28, 2015)

Richmond International Airport (RIC) reports that the April 2015 total passenger count set an all-time April monthly record, as 300,491 total passengers used the airport, surpassing the previous April total passenger record of 298,209 passengers set in 2007.

“Richmond International Airport is pleased to see the trend of increased passenger traffic continue,” said Jon E. Mathiasen AAE, RIC president and CEO. “RIC has become the airport of choice for many travelers throughout Virginia and the mid-Atlantic region because the airport offers convenient and affordable air service options, and provides customers with a safe and enjoyable travel experience.”

RIC saw a 3.7 percent increase in total passengers versus the same period a year ago.  Enplanements increased 4.8 percent (151,370 vs. 144,457 in 2014), and deplanements increased 2.6 percent (149,121 vs. 145,299 in 2014).  Competitive fares to many of our most-demanded destinations, the addition of new nonstop flights to Boston by JetBlue and Delta, Tampa Bay (Allegiant), and seasonal service to Cancun (Vacation Express), the region’s top international destination, have contributed to the increase in passenger traffic.

For the calendar year to date, RIC passenger traffic has increased 6.0 percent (1,048,515 vs. 988,746 in 2014). In addition, year-to-date cargo (measured as the sum of freight and mail) is up 0.8 percent, and year-to-date aircraft operations are up 5.6 percent.

Richmond International Airport (RIC) is one of the most modern and convenient airports in the eastern United States, offering nonstop flights to major domestic destinations and connecting service to points around the globe. More than three million passengers and 100 million pounds of cargo travel through RIC annually. For more information, please visit
