Second-Best Year For Passenger Traffic At Richmond International Airport
Richmond International Airport reports that 3,559,052 passengers utilized the airport in 2016, a 1.3 percent increase from 2015, representing the airport’s second-best year ever and its fourth consecutive year of increased passenger traffic.
December itself represents the best-ever December passenger count recorded at the airport, topping the previous record established in 2007. For the month of December, total passenger traffic increased 1.3 percent compared to the same period a year ago (285,097 in 2016 vs. 281,342 in 2015).
For the calendar year, airline passenger market shares in descending order: Delta (34.9%), American (31.0%), United (13.7%), JetBlue (11.1%), Southwest (7.3%) and other (2.0%).
Additionally, total cargo increased 13.1 percent in CY16 to more than 134 million pounds.
